"Southlake's Best Pizza!"

ARTICLE ON ARMEND'S BY: SOUTH LAKE STYLE

Armend's Restaurant
Let's face it, you cannot call a suburb "family-friendly" based on its school system alone. After our ultra-scheduled weeks we really put the "extra" into the term extracurricular. Come the end of the week we all need that one evening home to relax, unwind and not have to worry about the age-old question, "What's for dinner?" Most Friday nights (even during football season) is where the local pizzeria comes to the rescue of both our sanity and our free  time. So, this begs the question, "Who really has the best pizza in Southlake?"
We asked ourselves this very question and decided to shed some light on where the best slice of life could be found in Southlake. So we gathered some friends, some pies and their opinions on those pies. If you have yet to discover a slice from a restaurant that doesn't have a college football bowl game named in its honor then this one's for you!

The Game Plan
Our system, far from scientific, was simple and to the point. One pie with cheese and one with toppings were ordered from several of Southlake's finer pizza establishments including; i Fratelli, Joe's Pizza Pasta and Subs, Campania's, Armends, Bucca di Beppo and Coal Vines. Note to any and all of Southlake's budding restaurateurs and pizza buffs- only two of these six offered delivery services. Once that delivery disappointment wore off we devised a route to gather the pies and return them back to base-camp as safe and warm as we possibly could. After we cut through the cheese, we cut right to the chase and each pie was graded individually on its pizza mechanics. Our happy pollsters graded each pie's crust, sauce, cheese, toppings and overall taste while giving comments along the way.

About Armend's
Armend's is the laid-back, family friendly pizza place more reminiscent of Naples than New York. Forget Sinatra on the speakers, what tipped us off to the old-school Italian flavor we were about to behold was the soccer match playing on the large flat-screen in the open dining room. Mirxhan Seji (pronounced mirjahn sea) and her husband Asim and son Armend moved to Southlake from Waterbury, Connecticut 15years ago and opened up their first restaurant on White's Chapel. Eight years ago they moved to their current location and began seriously focusing on pizza and pasta. The family's labor of love is now home to Southlake's best pizza.

Armends' was considered, "the surprise of the evening" and garnered the top scores from our distinguished panel in four of the five categories including "Overall Taste". The New York style thin crust was crispy and a little doughty - the perfect base for a near-perfect pie. The addition of their authentic tomato sauce and generous amounts of mozzarella had our taste buds buzzing. At a price under $14 per pie, Armend's has what your family craves with money left over for cannoli!.
